![]() ![]() Ultimate around this time and report back what's happening with this maintenance period. ![]() We'll be sure to keep an eye on anything happening in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's online functionality or both.Īside from that, this could just be some random server maintenance period that does nothing that concerns Smash players at all. ![]() It's best to keep expectations in check, but there is at least a possibility that suggests that a new patch could be dropping tonight that either releases a new stage, applies further adjustments to Super Smash Bros. Notably, the 8.1.0 patch notes mentioned that "further investigations and adjustments to Online mode are expected," but those adjustments have not yet happened, and it's been over a year at this point. In addition to the new stage, Nintendo also applied various fixes to the game's online features, likely in response to the FixUltimateOnline movement that had trended on Twitter before that time. Since there were no balance adjustments made, Nintendo did not release an in-game notification warning players to save their replays before the patch was made live. On August 4, 2020, the Small Battlefield stage was added to Super Smash Bros. It just means that there wouldn't be any major adjustments to existing characters, stages or items. However, this doesn't necessarily exclude the possibility of patch 12.1.0 happening tonight. As of right now, no such notification for patch 12.1.0 exists. To ensure that fans have time to properly save their replays, Nintendo has traditionally launched in-game notifications alerting gamers that they should move to make the conversion soon. Luckily for fans, it's possible to convert replays into video form to preserve them even after patches. Whenever balance adjustments are made to the game, replays featuring characters that are impacted by these changes become unwatchable. If not a new character, then could it be a new balance patch? This sounds more plausible, but there's also a big strike against this possibility as well. ![]()
